Scavenging on Margate Main Sands
Margate’s playing host to a scavenger hunt of a different kind
next week (Thursday 13 September).
The Thanet Coast Project is organising a beach scavenger hunt on
the Main Sands, where local people can come along and explore the
shoreline, identifying the “evidence” that gets washed ashore from
the sea.
Being held as part of Margate’s Late and Live celebrations, the
scavenger hunt meets outside the Visitor Information Centre in the
Parade at 5.30pm and will last for around an hour. It’s free of
charge to take part.
Naomi Biggs, Thanet Coast Project Education Officer, said:
“There’s so much to explore along our coastline and this scavenger
hunt will be an excellent way to learn more about the wildlife that
lurks on our beaches and bays. This is the first of many Thanet
Coast Project events over the autumn, building up to the Kent
Coastal Week over the October half term, which will include our
annual Big Draw event.”
Beach cleans are part of the autumn events lined up by the
Thanet Coast Project. Further information about these events and
about how to book your place online can be found at
