Sailing out to the seals
There’s still time to book your place on one of the most popular
summer activities in Thanet, the wildlife sailing trips from Minnis
Bay.
There are only a few places remaining on the four-hour sailing
trips to Margate’s offshore sandbanks, which give people the
opportunity to experience local seals on the way.
The trips also offer the rare chance for passengers to climb
over board and take a walk around the sandbanks, where you can see
the tracks on the sand made by the seals and watch the sandbanks
disappear as the tide comes in.
The trips, which are part of the Engage Summer Blast line up for
young people during the school holidays, are open to everyone and
are £20 per person. There are spaces remaining on Thursday 2 August
at 7.15am and Friday 31 August at 6.45am, with all other trips now
fully booked. The excursions have been organised by the Thanet
Coast Project with the popular ‘Wildlife Sailing’ excursions run by
Mike Turner.
Tony Child, Thanet Coast Project Manager, said: “These trips are
great fun for the whole family and it’s a testament to how popular
they are, that there are now only two trips that are not already
fully booked. Every year, there’s a phenomenal demand for the
wildlife sailing trips, which offer an eco-friendly way to see the
seals off the Thanet coastline and explore the unique
sandbanks.”
To book your place, either visit www.thanetcoast.org.uk where
you can book online or call the Margate Visitor Information Centre
on 0870 2646111, where you can book over the phone with a credit or
debit card.
