SeaART 2008 

 

SeaART2008 (9-31 August 2008) was the fifth celebration of the art work by artists inspired by the coastal and marine environment, and that live or work in North East Kent. It included a series of children and family art workshops (SeaART Workshops - see below).

 

This year’s SeaART was organised by Thanet Coast Project with lead artist Ruth Cutler, working in partnership with the Old Town Gallery, I.O.T.A. and Thanet District Council.  SeaART2008 Poster (743KB)

Contemporary Art

SeaART2008 comprised of a series of contemporary art exhibitions on view from 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm from Saturday 9 August to Sunday 31 August at:

  • The Old Town Gallery, 1-3 Broad Street in Margate
  • I.O.T.A. Gallery Unit, Margate’s Harbour Arm
  • with additional displays within the Ramsgate Visitor Information Centre.

SeaART Workshops

The art workshops were a chance for local people and visitors to join in, enjoy a different creative experience. All were free, and included:

  • ‘BeachART’ with Ruth Cutler at various Thanet bays for 5-18s, as part of the Thanet Coast Project’s Beach Play Scheme (18 to 22 August)
  • ‘SeaART Workshops’ with IOTA’s Art Monkeys on the Margate Harbour Arm - where marine life will be created out of paper and bamboo. Drop -in family art workshop over the August bank holiday weekend (23 to 25 August, 2pm to 5pm)
  • 'Leave nothing but...' - Drop-in workshop with Ruth Cutler with Art for All at 9-10 Marine Drive, Margate (Wed 13 Aug, 2-4pm)

Family art workshops started developing ideas for the proposed new Cliftonville children's playground, and included:

  • ‘Viking Visions’ drop-in workshops with Ann Carrington (20 and 21 August, 10am-3.30pm, Tudor House, Margate), and
  • 'Viking Coastal Art' with the Margate Adult Education Centre) and artists Ruth Cutler and Trish Harrison.
