2018 Events and Activities

What's on 2018

These are the public events and activities run by the Thanet Coast Project.

Some of these activities are part of the new 'Guardians of the Deep' project with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund to help increase awareness raising and engagement, particularly with schools.

The Thanet Coast Project run these public events with the help of volunteers - mainly Coastal Wardens/Guardians.  There are numerous opportunities for volunteers to help on the coast - see 'Coastal Wardens', Beach Cleans & 'Coastbusters'.

This is the introductory course for new volunteers that would like to help as Coastal Wardens/Guardians on the North East Kent coast, which includes the NE Kent MPA.

Volunteers adopt a local bay or stretch of coastline and help look after local marine and bird life in your patch. We will take you through the history of the North East Kent Marine Protected Area (NEKMPA) and the management scheme, your role as a coastal warden/guardian and how you can help.

  • Sun 2 Sept, 1pm (3.5hrs, Whitstable)
  • Tue 9 Oct, 1pm (3.5hrs, Margate)
  • Booking: All new volunteers will need to complete a 'Volunteer Registration Form'* first and will be invited to confirm if they can attend the next workshop.

*‘Volunteer Registration Form’ (hyperlink) or download from the website at:  http://www.nekmpa.org.uk/how-to-help/nekmpa-coastal-wardens/  (‘copy & paste’ link below into your browser). We will then send details to invite you to the next training session nearer the time.
